Incubation Acceleration Mobilization® Model: Where Research Meets Action
The Incubation Acceleration and Mobilization® Model (IAM Model®) is more than a framework; it’s a proven pathway that turns evidence-informed findings into enhanced care and quality of life for older adults.
Born from Dr. Ron Schlegel’s conviction that every program should rest on solid evidence, the IAM Model® shows how a spark of research becomes practice that changes lives. First tested — and still growing — at the RIA, the model guides our research and knowledge mobilization team through three overlapping steps:
Incubation
We start by shaping and testing a new idea in the lab or pilot site. Rigorous studies answer the basic question: Does it work? Only when the data backs the concept do we move on.
Acceleration
Next, we try the idea in new settings — long-term-care homes, clinics, or community programs — to see how it fits real-world routines. This phase spotlights what helps or hinders success and fine-tunes the approach for scale.
Mobilization
Finally, we share and spread what works — through training, toolkits, and partnerships — so the innovation can improve lives across the sector and beyond.
Success at every stage of the IAM Model® hinges on identifying the research gap, co-creating with end-users, and continuously learning and adapting based on evidence.
