COVID-19: Doing our part to flatten the curve
The Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging (RIA) is committed to protecting the health and safety of our team, the older adult population we work with, our partners and the community.
The RIA has been monitoring the COVID-19 situation closely, taking steps to prevent transmission, listening to government announcements and following public health guidance. Research shows that there are steps we can all take to help flatten the curve. As an organization, we are taking the following measures:
The RIA has suspended all research being conducted in long-term care and retirement homes as well as in our labs. As leaders in aging research, we believe in protecting the vulnerable population we work with at this crucial time.
The RIA is committed to practicing social distancing. We are asking team members to work from home and supporting team members with school-aged children during school closures.
The RIA has cancelled all community events that involve older adults and other community members. This includes events both on-site at the RIA and off-site in the community. Information about event cancellations can be found on our website: the-ria.ca/events.
These measures have been put in place to keep our team and partners safe during this time of uncertainty. These measures may change over time as new information becomes available. The RIA will continue to follow public health guidance and work with our partners to find innovative ways to enhance life for older adults everywhere.
