The Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging (RIA) is thrilled to share that the Living Classroom program has been renewed for another three years, allowing us to continue preparing the next generation of care providers and improving the quality of life for older adults across Ontario.
Funded by Ontario’s Ministry of Long-Term Care, the Living Classroom program is led by the RIA in partnership with CESBA. The latest renewal supports both Personal Support Worker and Practical Nursing streams, expanding opportunities for learners and strengthening workforce pathways across the sector.
“We are grateful to the Ministry of Long-Term Care for their leadership and continued investment, and to CESBA for their partnership,” says Tina Mah, RIA’s executive director. “Their support enables us to expand the Living Classroom model and respond directly to Ontario’s long-term care workforce needs.”
Through partnerships with long-term care homes, colleges, and school boards, more than 50 Living Classrooms have been established across the province, supporting over 1,300 PSW learners to date.
“This renewal reflects the meaningful impact that the Living Classroom has had over the past two years,” says Tina Mah, RIA’s executive director. “By embedding learning in real care environments, we’re building skills, confidence, and connections that strengthen learners, care teams, and long-term care residents in Ontario.”
