RIA Appoints New Schlegel Research Chairs Focused on Medication Management and Mobility

Waterloo, Ontario (May 26, 2026) – Finding and maintaining our independence as we age is often a balance between the right medications and the ability to move, pain and injury-free through our homes and communities.

To accelerate our progress in helping older adults age well, the Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging (RIA) is pleased to announce the appointment of two new Schlegel Research Chairs: Dr. Tejal Patel, Schlegel Research Chair in Medication Management and Aging, and Dr. Andrew Laing, Schlegel Research Chair in Mobility and Aging

“We are excited to welcome Tejal and Andrew as Schlegel Research Chairs,” said Tammy Cumming, Acting Executive Director at the RIA. “Throughout their time at the RIA, they have demonstrated a commitment to research that delivers real impact. Their expertise and experience will drive change and deliver the actionable insights needed to help older adults live well.”
