A hearty congratulations to RIA founder Ron Schlegel, recipient of an honorary doctorate from the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University!

All eyes were on Dr. Ron Schlegel as he gave the Convocation Address at the November 22 ceremony. Speaking eloquently about the journey that has led him to where he is today, Ron remarked that “luck is where preparation meets opportunity.”

Spending much of his childhood in a long-term care home owned and operated by his parents, Ron developed close relationships with the residents and an interest in continuing his parents’ work. Now a successful businessman whose portfolio includes 19 Schlegel Villages long-term care and retirement homes across the province, Ron remains humble about his career.

Ron will receive further recognition from the University later this month when he is presented with a Lifelong Achievement Award at the 8^th Annual Update in Geriatrics, hosted by the McMaster Faculty of Continuing Health Sciences Education. This award recognizes Ron’s lifelong commitment to improving quality of life and care for older adults.
