The Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging and the Department of Systems Design Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Waterloo are excited to announce the search for the next Schlegel Chair in Technology for Healthy Aging.
This Chair will work with our team of Schlegel Research Chairs who focus their programs of research on a variety of aging topics like nutrition, health systems, mobility and dementia. In addition to this robust research team, this position will work with the RIA team and our network of partners to conduct research that is enhancing life for older adults in Ontario, Canada and around the world.
The RIA offers exciting opportunities for community-based research through our unique partnership with Schlegel Villages which provides senior living options for more than 5000 older adults across 19 locations in Ontario. RIA researchers collaborate with Village leadership, team members and residents to generate research questions and conduct person-centred research.
The successful candidate will: demonstrate foundational engineering research; an understanding of the complexities of introducing technology to meet the particular needs of seniors; an aptitude for real-world implementation, co-designing, and co-creation; an awareness and familiarity with developing, testing, and transferring technology within the ecosystem of healthcare. A strong interest in studying the social and ethical considerations around technology and aging is important.
