Alfred Yu is a Professor working in the area of biomedical engineering at the University of Waterloo. He is based in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and holds cross appointments in the School of Pharmacy and the Department of Applied Mathematics. At the RIA, Dr. Yu leads the Laboratory on Innovative Technologies in Medical Ultrasound (LITMUS). He is also the Director of the NSERC CREATE Program on Next-Generation Innovations in Ultrasonics (N-GENIUS). Dr. Yu is internationally recognized as an innovation leader and an interdisciplinary researcher in next-generation ultrasound imaging and therapeutics. His research contributions are internationally recognized by various milestone prizes, including the NSERC E.W.R. Steacie Memorial Fellowship, the Frederic Lizzi Award, the IEEE Ultrasonics Early Career Investigator Award, and the Ontario Early Researcher Award. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) and the Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC). He is now the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control, the Program Chair of the IEEE Ultrasonics Symposium, Community Co-Leader of the AIUM Basic Science & Instrumentation Group, and an elected board member of multiple ultrasound societies.
