Email Andrew Laing Academic Profile

Andrew Laing’s overall goal is to keep people independent and mobile for as long as possible by preventing injuries. His expertise is in musculoskeletal biomechanics and aging, and in working with others to develop and implement interventions for reducing injury risk. His research program related to the RIA focuses largely on balance and mobility, falls prevention, and prevention of fall-related injuries. Specific topics focus on understanding patterns and outcomes of falls in independent living communities, retirement homes, and long-term care facilities. Andrew uses this information to develop more effective fall and injury prevention strategies including safety flooring, wearable hip protectors, and products to reduce the risk of head and brain injuries. In addition, Andrew has expertise in preventing injuries in workers towards improving their health, and thus the health and quality of life of those they help care for.
