Taylor Cleworth joined the School of Kinesiology and Health Science at York University as an Assistant Professor after his postdoctoral fellowship with the RIA and University of Waterloo. He uses a multidisciplinary approach to understand the contributing factors leading to balance deficits and falls within older adults. The main areas of his research focus on neurophysiological and biomechanical processes involved in balance control, with a specific interest in visuomotor processes during static and dynamic postural tasks. Visual contributions to balance control are assessed using head-mounted displays and large field 3D stereoscopic visualization systems capable of rendering a variety of virtual environments. In addition, epidemiological and laboratory-based methodologies are used to identify fall risk within older adults. By combining these research areas, further development of intervention-based approaches can be used to reduce the impact of falls associated with age and disease-related mobility deficits.
