Dr. Atul Sunny Luthra MD

Dr. Luthra's clinical and research focus is on developing safe and affordable pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions for personal expressions seen in moderate to advanced dementia. He is an associate clinical professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University and the Medical Coordinator and Psychiatrist in the Program for Older Adults at Homewood Health Centre in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. He also affiliated with the St. Peter's Hospital site of Hamilton Health Science in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Dr. Luthra has developed a Meaning of behavioral Expressions Assessment Approach (MEA Approach™) to communicate with people living with dementia by interpreting their personal expressions. Luthra's Behavioral Assessment and Intervention Response (LuBAIR™) inventory inventory was designed to guide caregivers using the MEA Approach™, the details for which can be found in his book The Meaning of Behaviors in Dementia/Neurocognitive Disorders: New Terminology, Classification, and Behavioral Management. He is currently working on a similar book geared toward direct support staff.
