Inclusive Research Guidebook: Partnering With People Living With Dementia From Ethno-racial Communities

Very little research in Canada has explored the experiences of people living with dementia who are also part of an ethno-racial community. The term, ethno-racial communities, refers to individuals of diverse ethnic and/or racial backgrounds.
As more researchers turn their attention toward filling this gap, it is imperative that they do so in a way that is respectful, thoughtful, and upholds the rights, dignity, and safety of people living with dementia who are members of ethno-racial communities. This requires work and reflection before, during, and after engaging with these communities.
This guidebook was created to support researchers and research teams interested in pursuing research involving individuals impacted by dementia who are members of ethno-racial communities. It has benefited greatly from co-design: the meaningful engagement of partners, including people living with dementia from diverse ethno-racial communities, in the development of resources to increase their quality, relevance, and impact.
